Why won't Transitions lenses activate in the car?
 

Transitions lenses need ultraviolet radiation to change color.  Most vehicles have windshields and windows with a UV filter in them therefore they do not work well in a vehicle. 

If you drive a lot, consider Drivewear® Transitions® SOLFX™ lenses, which uses new technology to react to visible light as well as to UV light.  Designed specifically to meet the unique visual demands of the driving task, Drivewear is the first polarized photochromic lens to darken behind the windshield of a car.  This allows Drivewear lenses to change color based on current driving conditions in order to enhance the driver’s vision.  In addition, Drivewear lenses are polarized to block blinding glare, another distinct advantage when driving a car.

 

 

How dark do Transitions lenses get?
  Transitions lenses get about as dark as normal sunglasses outside in the sunlight.  

 

How clear do Transitions lenses get?
  Transition lenses get almost as clear as normal clear lenses indoors.   

 

Can I AR coat Transitions lenses?
  Yes.  

 

Can I mirror coat Transitions lenses?
  It is not recommended to mirror coat Transitions as it will reduce the activity of the photochromic dyes.  

 

Do Transitions lenses have a scratch resistant coating as well?
  Yes.  

 

Do Transitions lenses protect against UV?
  Yes.  They block 100% of UVA & UVB.
